New Car Deals for September 2010: Hybrids

Last Updated: Sep 12, 2010

Incentives for gas/electric hybrid cars remain a mixed bag. The smallest and least expensive ones that post the top fuel economy either don’t carry incentives at all or have reasonably small ones (like $750 marketing support with the Honda Insight). On the other hand, the largest and costliest models, where fuel savings aren’t as great, are carrying among the largest sales spiffs this month. Check out the $10,000 direct-to-dealer incentive on the Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid and $4,500 marketing support on the BMW ActiveHybrid 7, both of which are among the costliest hybrids available. More hybrids are coming for 2011, so this end of the market could well get crowded, with demand remaining flat—particularly among brands like Toyota, Honda, and now Ford, that have used up their allotment of tax credits—especially if gas prices remain stable. Next year could see things heat up in this segment with regard to incentives.
