New Car Deals for May 2012: Subcompact Cars
Don’t expect deep discounts on these small gas misers in May. Subcompact-car sales are soaring, particularly among cash-strapped buyers attracted by low sticker prices and/or high fuel economy. For the most part, the only subcompacts with cash rebates in May are sales laggards, such as the all-but-forgotten Suzuki SX4, the previous-generation Nissan Versa hatchback, and the slow-selling Fiat 500. Our take is that many buyers might be better served by spending a little more up front to get into a more accommodating -- but nearly as fuel-efficient compact-sized car -- or spend the same amount on a larger used car instead.
